Yet there is plenty of room for playful improvisation and expansion into soulful depths. Our audience was captivated by the spirit of their offering—Thandiwe’s inspiring poetry and winning smile, Daniel’s remarkably intricate and versatile musicianship with several instruments. Their onstage chemistry is terrific and the warm rapport they had with the audience added many dimensions to our enjoyment.

Critics' Picks Nashville Scene
Collectively known as The Bosch Institute, local performance poet Thandiwe Shiphrah and musician/composer Daniel Arite collaborate on what they term "audio collages," essentially providing spontaneous musical settings for Shiphrah's experimental poetry. Arite uses everything from water to sponges and standard instruments to undergird and offer sonic commentary on Shiphrah's word-as-sound poetry. Likewise, Shiphrah draws from a broad technical palette, using guttural sounds for percussive effect and drawing subtly beautiful rhythmic and melodic contours with her words.

What a program it was! Thank you so much Thandiwe and Daniel for the intellectual joy you brought to such a hungry group. It was perfect. You were perfect. This was truly a memorable evening for all.

Sensual, baroque, ice melting.
Sensual, baroque, ice melting. Daniel Arite's music at times made my head bob from front to back at one cadence and side-to-side at another cadence. I can't normally do that.
